Myth: Folklore: Legend at Horniman museum 31st March 2010

So here's the photos from the final show which was a brilliant experience and a great success, and builds on our previous site-specific work at Dulwich Picture Gallery and in Shop.

Some things students working on the project said;

"A really good site-specific experience, bringing the community together"
"The venue was amazing"
"Good for our parents to see our work in a professional context"
"Organisation- we got a chance to take control"
"A real confidence booster"
"Now I understand site-specific work better"
"Great experience: first real Year 12 show"
"Good to interact with members of the public"

Stuart Worden, Assistant Principal said, " Thank-you for the Horniman last night. Once again I see the VAD team pushing boundaries, working in exciting places and producing high quality work. I felt that the work benefited from clear subject matter and was impressed by the level of creative and intellectual engagement. I particularly loved the use of film and the piece with the children's clothing will stay with me for some time.
Brilliant commitment and thank-you for the vision and the energy."

Thanks very much to The Horniman museum for letting us loose in their fabulous museum- we hope to be back :)

New Year 12 students 'Get Together' in the canteen- Year 12 Visual Arts and Design students offering a helping hand with little art interventions....

Having only been here for 3 days, Year 12 Visual Arts and Design students are already having a show- making fun and participatory art pieces encouraging students in the canteen 'get together' to make friends through the power of art- it was a great way to start conversations and break the ice, here are some examples;making friendship bracelets, mapping memories/encounters of the site so far, sharing chit chat over a cuppa with a builder, finding match made friends in a tent, finding a partner who has the same handmade pendant as you, making a friendship tree with students thumb prints.

How Do You ?

Year 12 Visual Arts and Design students worked extremely hard this week to produce a huge number of interactive and hand crafted objects and events based on the theme of 'How Do You Do?'. The students wanted to create an opportunity for students from other strands to introduce themselves to each other and make friends. Guests were greeted with the Info Desk and given a programme of the activities taking place. Guests could have their tarot cards read by Aoife, receive a gift and a hug from Jamsine and go on a speed date with Ruby and Matt. All activities were designed to encourage students to interact and learn about each other. The event was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone for coming.

Visual Arts and Design: Final Shop show 14th May 2009

Images from Final Shop Show on our Flickr gallery

Hello! Our final show had over 350 people exploring our Shop, not only family and friends but, the less usual art audience of passers by out shopping in the Whitgift, or going to catch a tram or bus, or those on a lunch break from work. This real engagement with the community was fantastic for our students where the artist in a traditional gallery situation, is absent upon the audience's viewing.... To read more see our Shop blog
